  • Morala accommodates up to 10 adults and 4 children across 5 en-suite rooms, including 2 family suites and 1 master bedroom. Children under 2 stay free. Please note that only 10 persons are permitted on game drives.

  • Yes — Welgevonden is a malaria-free reserve. No prophylactics are required, making it ideal for families with young children and travellers who prefer to avoid antimalarial medication. It is one of the very few Big 5 reserves in South Africa with this advantage.

  • By road: Welgevonden is approximately 2h30 north of Johannesburg. Private vehicles are not permitted in the reserve — guests are collected by our ranger Stephens at the Main Gate. By air: 1-hour charter flights are available from Johannesburg to the Western Landing Strip, with a short transfer to the lodge.

  • All rates are for exclusive use of the full lodge. Included: all meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner), snacks and drinks during game drives, daily housekeeping, laundry service, and morning and evening game drives with your private accredited guide. Airport transfers on arrival and departure days are also included.

  • Yes, children of all ages are welcome. Morala is family-friendly with spacious suites. Children under 2 stay free. The lodge is not fenced — staff escort guests between chalets and the main lodge at night. Families with young children must be vigilant at all times. Only 10 persons are permitted on game drives.

  • Welgevonden is home to the Big Five — lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo — as well as giraffe, zebra, cheetah, hippo and over 250 bird species. With your private guide and vehicle, you explore different habitats each drive for varied and memorable encounters.

  • Welgevonden can be visited year-round. The dry season (May–September) offers the best game viewing as vegetation thins and animals gather around water sources. Summer (October–April) brings lush landscapes, newborn animals and excellent birdwatching. Each season has its own magic.

  • Yes — our resident chef caters to all dietary requirements and preferences with advance notice. Whether vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free or any food allergy, simply let us know when booking and we will plan menus accordingly.

  • We recommend neutral-coloured clothing (khaki, olive, beige), a warm layer for early morning drives, sunscreen, a hat, binoculars and a camera. The lodge provides all bedding, towels and toiletries. A full packing list will be sent on booking confirmation.

  • Yes — Morala's exclusive-use model makes it ideal for birthdays, anniversaries, family reunions and corporate retreats. The lodge accommodates up to 10 adults for a fully private experience. Contact us to discuss your event.
